Separator

What is a separator?

The SEPAR filter is an innovative device for separating water from diesel fuel, widely used in agricultural machinery, trucks, buses, construction machinery, vessels, gas stations, and stationary generators.

Separ Filter

Why is it important?

Considering the potential damage that water and particles in fuel can cause to fuel pumps and injectors—resulting in reduced efficiency and high engine repair costs—the company Willibrord Lösing Filtertechnik e. K. developed an effective water and particle separation system in 1992, called the SEPAR 2000 fuel filter series.

In 2006, Willibrord Lösing Filtertechnik e. K. added another innovative product to its program—the SEPAR EVO-10, which is made of plastic.

How does the SEPAR SWK-2000 filter work?

The SEPAR SWK 2000 filter is a water and fuel separator for diesel fuels. A completely new multi-phase centrifugal system ensures 100% efficiency in removing water and particles from fuel. The operation of SEPAR 2000 will be shown in five stages.

  1. Stage – After entering the filter, the fuel circulates through the internal channel system, creating centrifugal rotation.
  2. Stage – Due to centrifugal force, water and particles in the fuel (up to 30 microns in size) settle at the bottom of the separator chamber.
  3. Stage – At this stage, the fuel passes through external channels in the central part of the housing. Due to the second channel, fuel flow changes rapidly, causing water droplets and particles to separate from the fuel. When impurities reach a certain weight, they fall to the bottom of the separation chamber. At this point, most impurities have already been removed.
  4. Stage – Below the fuel filter cartridge, the fuel passage area significantly increases without reducing flow capacity. This effect slows the flow, allowing even smaller water droplets and particles to accumulate on the inner walls of the housing, forming larger drops that eventually fall to the bottom of the separation chamber due to gravity.

According to the previously described separation process, most of the water and particles present in the fuel are removed into the chamber or onto the inner wall of the filter, significantly extending the lifespan of the filter cartridge.

  1. Stage – The final stage of purifying water and particles from fuel is efficiently performed through a replaceable filter cartridge. The cartridges are made of special materials with different permeability levels. The purified fuel exits the filter through outlets C or D towards the fuel supply pump.

Main Features:

  • Available with different flow rates from 1 to 260 l/min, offering filters for engine ranges from 5 to 10,000 kW.
  • Compact size, various connection options, easy installation.
  • High efficiency in separating water from fuel (according to RTÜW tests, no water was found after filtration).
  • Due to the possibility of cleaning, the service interval for the filter cartridge is extended.
  • SEPAR 2000 filters protect high-pressure pumps and fuel injectors.
  • Easy maintenance of SEPAR 2000 filters.

Filter Applications

  • Road vehicles – trucks, buses, municipal vehicles, etc.
  • Construction machinery, compressors, agricultural equipment, forklifts, etc.
  • Marine engines.
  • Stationary engines – generators, welding machines, pumps.
  • Mining applications, locomotives.
  • Special versions for specific uses.
  • For marine applications, additional water level indicators are provided.
  • For extremely cold areas, SEPAR 2000 filters with heaters are available.

Maintenance Process:

Turn off the engine. Loosen the vent valve on the filter cover, then open the drain valve at the bottom of the separator chamber. The cleaned fuel between the cover and the filter cartridge flows back through the filter, washing away accumulated water and impurities. At the same time, the fuel draining from the separator chamber carries out the impurities. Close the drain valve and refill the system with fuel. Close the vent screw. The engine can now be restarted. If the engine does not reach maximum RPM, replace the fuel filter cartridge.

Important – To clean plastic separator chambers, only clean diesel fuel should be used. Other cleaning agents may damage the plastic material or have a harmful effect. Standard SEPAR models SWK-2000/5, 2000/5/50, and 2000/10 are suitable for use with biofuels (Canola).
